Most children with normal development will progress to adolescence and adulthood and will achieve their maturational goals with the support of their family, teachers and peers. A few, however, need more assistance. We have only to look about us to recognize them. The child may refuse to go to school and cry every day. She might write alphabets in reverse despite being a bright child. She might stay aloof and be poorly adjusted with her peers. He might work hard all year but forget all that he has learnt, just before the exams and so on.
These children and their families go through high levels of distress. It is essential to address these difficulties in an adequate and comprehensive manner. None of this is possible without the accurate assessment of the child's problem in its various dimensions. A reliable diagnosis and rating using standardized tools, thus becomes the bedrock upon which all further intervention is planned. Our training program has been designed to equip professionals in child guidance with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform these psychometric assessments.
