PAGIR (People's Action Group for Inclusion and Rights) an organization based in Ladakh working towards creating an inclusive and prejudice free society.
They are working to promote economic empowerment as the first step towards social empowerment and inclusion of people with disability to hone their creative skills to transform waste paper and cloth into handicrafts for decoration and items of daily use.
PAGIR registered in 1997 works to explore and build on the potential of disabled people to bring them into the mainstream and include them in the development agendas of the day. Mohd Iqbal, President is himself severely disabled but does not let it hamper his spirit and dedication. Under his guidance, PAGIR through its network across Leh district provides a single window of information, opportunities for training , livelihoods and for marketing products. This work is supported by a team of enthusiastic volunteers bringing together people with disability and those who are physically able.
PAGIR is involved in advocacy of issues at the district and state level. Their demands include public offices and buildings be made disabled friendly, availability of Health services at the block level, dissemination of information on legal aid and credit and awareness of rights and entitlements.
